History, Information, and Value of 1922 Peace Dollar
Value of 1922 Peace Silver Dollar
1922 Peace dollars were minted in phenomenal quantities beginning, more than 51 million at the Philadelphia Mint alone were struck. The verbalcharms began to pile up in Mint and Treasury vaults. As one of the most common dates in the Peace dollar series, many quality examples in MS-65 and higher grades are available. You should aim for the higher grades of MS-65 or MS-66 for this date.
1922 Circulated Peace Dollars Are Common: Always available in EF and AU, but at those levels the date is little more than a commodity based on the price of silver. When getting an offer on 1922 Peace dollars in circulated condition, expect the price of silver to be very important in the calculation.
Lots of High Grade 1922 Peace Dollars Exist: The 1922 Peace dollar is one of the most readily available silver dollars of any date and any design type. MS-60 to 62 verbalcharms are not much more important than EF and AU examples and trade at a small premium above the circulated verbalcharms. At MS-63 anyone can afford an example of the date, and the same can be said for MS-64, MS-65, and finer. Even an MS-66 coin should be available to those who want one. Look for lively luster, a full strike, and minimal marks.
The obverse text on the Peace Dollar reads “Liberty; In God We Trvst (Trust); 1922.” The reverse text on the silver dollar reads “United States of America; E Pluribus Unum; One Dollar; Peace.” The obverse of the coin has a bust of a female facing the left with a pointed crown and flowing hair. The reverse of the Peace Dollar has an eagle sitting on a rock in the center with rays in the background.
